Russian Red Jumbo Garlic Seed

It’s taken a number of years for this variety to teach us just how it wanted to be grown. I think we have finally learned.

Our Russian Red Jumbo bulbs are 65mm or larger with at least 4 plantable jumbo-sized cloves. Sales will be limited to 3 packs only.

Patients. Russian Red can take a long time for the shoots to appear above the soil. We plant ours in the middle of May with no visible shoots until the end of June or the beginning of July.

Remove the edible scapes when they appear.

Harvest in late December, when all but the top 4 to 5 leaves have died. If rust sets in, then harvest when most, if not all, of the leaves have been consumed. Rust will not affect the bulbs.

***Russian Red garlic is cultured from the Marbled Purple Stripe variety and is in no way related to Elephant garlic.
